Spiritual and Moral Culture in Higher School.1917-2017: comprehension of the history

On the 26th of January,  in People’s Friendship University of Russia( Moscow) representatives of different branches of the Association of Orthodox Christian Scholars, headed by its chairman Archpriest Gennady Zaridze, took part in the IV International Scientific Conference “ Spiritual and Moral Culture in Higher School.1917-2017: comprehension of the history”. The Conference assembled representatives of scientific community of Secular and Religious Universities and Academies along with students’ community, in order to discuss questions of spiritual development, moral upbringing in the system of Russian Higher Education.

The Conference was organized by Moscow Orthodox Theological Academy and People’s Friendship University of Russia in the frames of jubilee XXV International Christmas Readings. Scientists of the branches of the Association of Orthodox Christian Scholars from Moscow, Saint- Petersburg, Voronezh, Volgograd, Kursk, Lipetsk, Orel presented their reports and made their suggestions to the final resolution of the Conference.

The chairman of the Association of Orthodox Christian Scholars, Archpriest Gennady Zaridze presented his report” About existing methods towards building up spiritual and moral culture of modern youth” to the plenary session. Another report” About model programme of spiritual and moral culture in Russian Higher School” was presented by a member of the Association,  Igor Esaulenko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of Voronezh State Medical University named after N.N.Burdenko. Doctor Esaulenko shared his experience of such work in Medical University.

In the process of working of 3 Round Tables of the Conference “ Strategy of development of Spiritual and Moral Culture in Higher School” and “ Practices of Spiritual and Moral Culture in Higher School”, scientists of the Association of Orthodox Christian Scholars delivered their comprehensive reports. A lively interest had a paper” About an experience of organizing  an Academic Competition on Spiritual and Moral Culture for students of Institutes and Universities”, submitted by Elena Firstova, PhD( Pedagogy) of Voronezh State Pedagogical University.Also an initiative group of the Association issued a statement about Academic Competition of Spiritual and Moral Culture. First all- Russian Academic Competition was held in Sochi in October,2016.  Regional competition preliminaries of the Second All- Russian Academic Competition finished in Voronezh, Orel, Lipetsk in December,2016. In addition to that, experts discussed questions of peacekeeping social mission of Russian Orthodox Church in the period of 1917-2017 and consolidation role of the Church in the modern world.
